REPORT OF ACTIVITIES DURING 21 DECEMBER 2013 – 20 JANUARY 2014


  1. In collaboration with our centre, twelve public meetings were organised at different places/institutions in and around Kolkata on 22, 23, 25, 27, 31 December 2013 and 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 10, 20 January 2014 and one public meeting was organised at our close initiative in Agartala, Tripura, on 16 January 2014 in commemoration of Swamiji’s 150th Birth Anniversary. The Secretary of the centre delivered lectures on various topics based on Swamiji’s message in today’s context in all these meetings. Altogether 7,000 people comprising teachers, scholars, students, and general devotees attended these programmes.

  2. Our centre organised various programmes in commemoration of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th Birth Anniversary at the centre’s premises during 21 December 2013 and 20 January 2014, which were attended by 8,100 people. The followings are the details of the programmes:a. A talk on ‘Swami Vivekanander Natun Samajbad’ on 30 December 2013 to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. In all 750 people comprising, youths, devotees, distinguished guests attended the programme.b. Swami Vivekananda’s 152nd Birthday was celebrated by our centre in befitting manner in a four-day programme at Swamiji’s Ancestral House from 12-15 January 2014.

  • On 12 January as in the previous year an impressive rally and a grand procession comprising students, devotees, distinguished guests and monks of the centre was conducted from this centre. It was flagged off by Sri Sudip Bandyopadhyay, M.P., and Dr. (Mrs.) Shashi Panja, Minister of Department of Women and Child Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal. More than 5,500 people took part in the procession. In addition to these 4 (four) other processions came to pay their homage to Swamiji’s Statue at our centre with about 10,000 participants.

    Around 50,000 people visited Swamiji’s House throughout the day (5.30 am. to 9 pm.) to offer their homage to Swamiji on his birthday.

  • On 13 January there was a public meeting in the evening at the Ramakrishna Mancha of this centre. In total 55o people attended the meeting.

  • On 14 January there was cultural programme (Yoga Natika) on the theme ‘Sri Ramakrishna Udvasita Manabpremik Vivekananda’ depicting Swamiji’s wandering days, his appearance at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago and foundation of Belur Math. Altogether 750 people attended the programme.

  • On 15 January, a special talk was delivered at our centre on ‘Swami Vivekananda : How He Inspired Me’, by Dr. Martin Kämpchen, a German Scholar. Around 550people were present in that meeting.

  1. We are glad to state that our centre has been awarded with the Netaji Subhas Memorial Challenge Trophy by the ‘Association of Voluntary Blood Donors’, West Bengal, in their 34th Anniversary and Annual Convocation on 20 January 2014 for mobilising maximum number of voluntary blood donors during April 2012 to March 2013 in the category of First Time Camp Organiser.

  2. The centre distributed 400 blankets among the poor and needy villagers in two blocks of the Sunderban area and 100 blankets among the street dwellers around our centre in the month of December 2013.

  3. The centre has launched its official website on the auspicious day of Swamiji’s Birth tithi puja on 23 January 2014. The address of the site is www.rkmsvh.org.
